Real Estate Advertising Tips

Are you in violation of Craigslist Terms and Conditions?

We recently launched our ultimate ad customizer, which allows you to further customize your Craigslist, blog, website postings (30 new formats, set the width, different colors, etc.). One of the top questions we have been asked is why don’t we have live links on the Craigslist version. The simple answer is because it is against the Craigslist TOU.

craigslist terms of use

Under conduct it clearly states:

7. CONDUCT

You agree not to post, email, or otherwise make available Content:

m) that includes links to commercial services or web sites, except as allowed
in "services";

Posting a listing is not considered "services" and I could be wrong here but I am pretty sure a Real Estate website is considered commercial.

Yes I know MANY others posts links but we respect the Craigslist terms of use and are not going to put our members or ourselves in a position to break them.

Happy posting!

I guess I need to pay more attention to small print.  Not that I am in violation.

Hannah - except allowed in "services" means the services category on CL.  Links are allowed if you are posting to the services category.  A real estate listing is not posted in the services category.  See the Craigslist help desk for a search on "links prohibited" http://nashville.craigslist.org/forums/?SQ=links+prohibited&act=RSR&searchAID=&forumID=9 and "links" http://nashville.craigslist.org/forums/?SQ=links&act=RSR&searchAID=&forumID=9.  You will see many get ghosted or blocked ads due to posting links.  Better safe than sorry imo.

Do people have any luck - either with calls or traffic to their websites - from ads in the services section? I've thought about posting there but hadn't yet.

Misty - I've been laying off Craigslist lately b/c of all the spamming going on.  We have found a lot of success with the other 2 "classified sites" you post CFA to:  Backpage and Kijiji

Hi Tina.  Thanks for your feedback.  I have heard others complain about the spam on CL.  Backpage is awesome!  Brings lots of traffic and they have better support for HTML and allow links.
