Walk Score - Very Cool!

If you haven't seen the cool Walk Score widget you should check it out at http://www.walkscore.com/.  You can also add it to your website and blogs by requesting a walk score id at http://www.walkscore.com/tile.shtml

We have recently added the walk score widget to our ClassifiedFlyerAds.com Real Estate Flyers and visitors love it.  Click Here for a sample.

  • Click on the icons in the Walk Score map to see how it highlights the matching place to the left.
  • Click on a place in the left and see how it highlights the matching icon in the map
  • Click on the arrows next to the business type to see others nearby.  For example click the right arrow next to Grocery and you will be presented with other Grocery stores nearby.

We think this is a handy widget that will enhance your online listings and will add value to buyers who are viewing your listings.

Hats off to Walk Score.

Cool tool, but in my case I noticed that it logged the distance as the crow flies.  From my home, I would have to walk directly across a creek and a major freeway to get to the movie theater in the distance it indicates.  However, it's still a good tool to get a feeling of generally how close things are to a particular location.

Interesting site but it has one flaw... it assumes that a nice walk consists of traveling to places of business as opposed to taking a leisurely walk... in other words- great for urban listings.

Neat site. However, I wonder how useful it will be for buyers. I checked out a few addresses that were relatively close to attractions and they still got low scores. It appears that anything over 0.75-1.0 miles takes a hit.  Few suburban neighborhoods are going to get good scores base on that calculation. Still neat site. Thanks

It does seem to have an urban bias but I think the idea is to get people to think about how much of their daily business can be done within walking distance.

Love the site!  I will definitely find a way to incorporate it into my website!

Thanks everyone for your comments on this.  Yes, agreed in some non-urban areas it does not score as well but the most value I see in the tool is it shows people what places are nearby.

Hi Misty, I checked it out. As soon as a get the code, I will try it and see how it looks. Definitely suited more for urban lookers. Thanks for the heads up.

Wow, this seems so easy and so useful to clients who do not live in the area.  It gives them more than just beds and baths, but what makes a home so unique - location.

Okay now that's a useful gizmo. I need to go back and check that one out. Have no idea how I would add it or use it ;)

That's a cool tool.  I have bookmarked it, but think it has a value.  One of the things I love best about where I live is the ability to walk from my house to the "downtown" easily.  Walking is a great form of exercise and one that I try to make time for (at least when the weather is warm here).

Yes, walk score is real a good idea! But why only walk score? How often do we walk nowadays? More and more people drive cars.I have also tried one more service at http://drivescore.fizber.com/. It is called Drive Score. With the help of it you can see how close establishments are by car. Try! It's really a perfect idea!
